Getting Relief from Aching Joints
Arthritis affects millions of Americans, yet there is currently no cure for the condition. While many physicians prescribe non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs for the relief of arthritis pain, not everyone can tolerate these medications. Others would rather use natural remedies for their arthritis. Fortunately, there are many ways in which one can relieve arthritis pain naturally, these being just a few.
Massage
This probably comes as no surprise to you. Massage can reduce the amount of pain you feel from arthritis. What may surprise you, however, is the way in which the book, Natural Remedies, suggests massaging for arthritis.
Most individuals think they should apply massage directly to the inflamed, painful joint, but Natural Remedies asserts one should massage above and bel0ow the joint to attain benefits instead.
Herbalism
The application of stinging nettle leaves to an inflamed, painful joint is another effective natural pain relief technique many individuals with arthritis find helpful. There are a few ways in which you can reap the benefits of these leaves, according to Natural Remedies.
For instance, you can apply the leaves directly onto the joint by putting them on your skin. Be sure to use gloves when handling these leaves, though, the book cautions. You can also eat or drink these leaves to get pain relief. You can cook the leaves and eat them as a vegetable or drink the water you boiled the leaves in as you would a tea.
Essential Oils
Try using one of several essential oils in order to relieve arthritis pain. For instance, you can try mixing a few drops of peppermint, marjoram, lavender, or rosemary into a base oil and rubbing it into the painful joint. Taking a bath with essential oils may also help reduce pain caused by arthritis.
Compresses
Applying hot and/or cold compresses can sometimes be another good form of natural pain relief. Try applying a hot compress for ten to fifteen minutes every three or four hours. Alternatively, try alternating between hot and cold compression, applying a hot compress to the painful joint for two minutes, then a cold compress for 30 seconds. Do whichever helps you the most.
These are just a few of the things you can do to help relieve your arthritis pain naturally. If you decide to try any of these techniques, please come back and let us know how well they worked for you!

My favorite is ginger tea, where I boil fresh cut ginger for 10 minutes, strain into teacup, add a drop of honey and enjoy! Keep up the great writing!
This sure is a different methodology to treat the condition as opposed to taking some sort of medication which might not have an effect that is desired. Compresses sure are used often for pain relief, and so it would seem that they are quite effective.
Good post, but have you thought about Arthritis affects millions of Americans before?
Thank you both so much for reading and commenting! I appreciate it!
Ginger is used for a lot of things - it’s good to know it can help arthritis
pain, too.
Arthritis is also very common in Africa, my extended family comes from the southern part and I believe it’s hereditary. Most patients are treated with herbs from back of trees which is usually taken with hot drinks(alcohol) or grinded and applied like a paste.
Thanks for sharing though.
