Helping Relieve Your Child’s Inflamed Airway
If your child is suffering, you will probably stop at nothing to make your child feel better. Children often get sick when they are young because of their weakened immune system, and children are vulnerable to a viral infection of their windpipe called croup. Your child might feel like he or she is having difficult breathing. He or she might also have a barking cough or a tightness of lungs. But there are many ways that you can help your child feel relief from croup.
Like with most sicknesses, fluids are very important. Make sure that your child drinks plenty of fluids in order to flush his or her system of toxins and viruses. There are also several vitamins and minerals that you can give your child in order to help fight the virus. If your child is coughing up mucus, you might need to give him or her vitamins that will help clear the mucus. Vitamin A helps repair the mucus membranes. Another good vitamin to give your child to help clear mucus is carotenoids. Cod liver oil serves the same function as Vitamin A in children and can be taken safely.
To help your child feel pain relief and fight off infection, Vitamin C and zinc help strengthen the immune system and help the body heal. To help your child detoxify, you should give your child Vitamin E and plenty of antioxidants. Also, herbs like Echinacea, Goldenseal, Fenugreek, and Thyme all help fight croup.
Heat therapy is great for relieving croup. Not only can heat help alleviate the pain that comes from frequent coughing, but heat also helps sooth the windpipe and breaks up mucus. By applying heat where your child feels congested, he or she might be able to cough up the mucus and viruses.
