Naturally Healing Wounds
We, as humans, tend to get cuts, bruises, and scrapes occasionally due to our everyday activities. Perhaps you get a cut accidentally while shaving. Or maybe you will get a scrape when you fall down while roller-skating. No matter what you are doing, cuts and scrapes are a part of life. However, you can treat, cleanse, and help heal scrapes and cuts naturally with several different herbs.
Please be sure to read my other post on herbs to heal cuts and scrapes for even more natural ways to heal wounds.
Myrrh
Myrrh is one herb you can utilize in cleaning wounds and aiding in the prevention of infections. The Doctors Book of Herbal Home Remedies recommends mixing one teaspoon of myrrh tincture with ¼ pint of water. Dab the myrrh mixture onto the wound and allow it to air dry. You should use the myrrh mixture two times a day, when changing the bandage on your wound.
Myrrh acts as an antibacterial agent, and it is good for fighting infections in wounds. More specifically, myrrh encourages the production of white blood cells in the wound site, which aids in the fight against infection.
Oregon Grape
Oregon grape is another herb that helps fight infection in cuts and scrapes. This herb contains berberine, which is an ingredient that acts like an antibiotic, and aids the body’s immune system in warding off infection.
After wasting your cut or scrape out thoroughly with soap and water, sprinkle some oregon grape powder onto it to reap its benefits.
Aloe
Aloe is probably one of the most well-known herbs for the treatment of cuts, scrapes, and other wounds. Not only does aloe aid the body fight infection and promote healing, it also reduces the risk of scarring from the wound. Aloe acts as an anti-microbial and an anti-inflammatory agent. Putting aloe gel on an open wound within five minutes of getting it, dilates blood vessels and floods the cut or scrape with blood, which encourages faster healing. Aloe also helps stop bleeding. Additionally, it is thought that aloe encourages the growth of connective tissue, which also helps promote the healing process.
When looking for aloe vera gel, make sure aloe is the primary ingredient, the first ingredient listed on the bottle. Put aloe gel on your wound immediately after washing it out with soap and water. Additionally, put aloe vera gel on wounds two times a day, when you are changing the bandage on your wounds.
These herbs will help you prevent infection in wounds as well as promote the healing process. Aloe can be found in many stores, including health foods, grocery, department, and drug stores. Oregon grape and myrrh may be found in your local health foods store.
