More Herbs to Relieve Carpel Tunnel

Dandelion from www.wikipedia.comNaturally Relieving Carpel Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms

Carpel tunnel syndrome is characterized by pain, tingling, and/or numbness in the wrist, thumb, and first three fingers, and is often caused by repetitive motion, such as factory work or typing.  However, carpel tunnel syndrome (CTS) can also be caused by health conditions such as diabetes and thyroid problems and hormonal changes, such as menopause, taking birth control, or pregnancy.

Regardless of the cause of your carpel tunnel syndrome, there are several herbal remedies you can utilize to help reduce your symptoms.  I have already discussed some of these remedies in the post: Herbal Remedies for Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.  Please read on for even more natural symptom relief for CTS.

Turmeric

Turmeric is one herb that can help reduce the symptoms of CTS.  The Doctors Book of Herbal Home Remedies suggests taking 400-600mg. of curcumin extract three times each day on an empty stomach and making a turmeric poultice to wrap around your wrist.

To make the poultice, mix two tablespoons of turmeric in its powder form with warm water in order to make a turmeric paste.  Put the paste between two gauze pads and wrap it around your hurting wrist.  Wrap a bandage, such as an ace bandage around the gauze pads in order to keep the paste in place for the entire day.  You can safely use this paste wrap for your wrist occasionally, but you should not use it for more than three or four days at a time.

Additionally, you can take between 400-600mg of curcumin extract to relieve CTS symptoms.  Curcumin is one of the active ingredients found in turmeric, and it has been shown to be as effective as cortisone in relieving inflammation.  The Doctors Book of Herbal Home Remedies asserts it is safe to take curcumin extract until you achieve symptom relief.

Dandelion

Dandelion is especially helpful for CTS if your carpel tunnel was caused by pregnancy or fluid retention, as dandelion acts as a mild diuretic, according to The Doctors Book of Herbal Home Remedies.  To use dandelion as an herbal remedy, you should drink a cup of dandelion tea two times each day.

To make the tea, cut a couple of dandelion leaves up and place them into one cup of warm water.  Let it sit for five minutes before drinking it.  You can use wild dandelion leaves or purchase them from specialty grocery stores.  You can use this herbal remedy safely until your symptoms go away.

Arnica

Arnica has been used since the Greek and Roman times for injuries and wounds.  It possesses anti-inflammatory characteristics.  It also helps decrease pain associated with carpel tunnel syndrome.

The Doctors Book of Herbal Home Remedies suggests buying arnica oil infused with St. John’s Wart or in olive oil.  The book also suggests not buying homeopathic arnica oil to use for CTS symptom relief.

Massage the oil into your wrist, starting from the center and working your way towards your pinky finger and thumb.  Then, massage up your wrist, again moving from the inside out.  Massage the oil into your wrist for five minutes.  Massage the oil into your hurting wrist twice a day.  This remedy is safe to use until your CTS symptoms have subsided.

Carpel tunnel syndrome is a painful condition, effecting many Americans today.  If you suffer from this painful condition, try these herbal remedies to reduce your symptoms.
