Too Much of a Good Thing

Sunstroke and How to Recover From It

Heat therapy has fantastic benefits such as improving circulation and providing pain relief. But excessive amounts of sunlight can keep your body from remaining at a constant temperature. If you spent a lot of time out in the sun during the summer or during a much needed vacation, you might become dehydrated. You must immediately cool off, because sunstroke can lead to many severe medical problems, as well as death.

The best way to avoid sunstroke is to avoid spending excessive amounts of time in the sun. Find shade or air conditioning whenever you can. If this is not possible, make sure that you drink plenty of water. Bring as much water with you as possible and keep drinking. Increase how much water you drink if you are sweating a lot. You must replace the water that is lost through sweat.

Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables will help guard against heatstroke. Not only do these foods contain water, but they also promote your general health. Avoid salt and especially avoid alcohol and caffeine. These further dehydrate you.

One way to avoid heatstroke is to carry around a herbal cooler. These can be wrapped around your head to help counteract the heat of the sun. You can also use a cyro cuff cooler.

There are some vitamins and herbs that prevent sunstroke. These vitamins and herbs are:

  • Cayenne
  • Grapefruit seed extract
  • Lavender
  • Vitamin C

Many of these not only prevent sunstroke, but also provide pain relief from the headache that can come from heatstroke.
