Concerned with shooting pains in your feet?
Are you pregnant and have been experiencing shooting pains that start in your feet and escalade up into your legs? You’re first thought is maybe blood clots. You’re second concern, they’re so painful you can barely walk. What can you do? And what are they?
The shooting pains in your feet may be from Over Pronation, also called flat feet, that may happen over time when the extra weight you are carrying from the baby causes more strain in your feet. The weight can cause stress or swelling on bands of tissues running from the heal to the front of your foot or your plantar fascia. If the problem goes untreated, a serious problem can form causing extreme pain in the heel called Plantar Fasciitis or pain in the ball of your foot called Metatarsalgia.
You may be able to avoid the problem by wearing:
- a shoe with extra arch support
- athletic shoe
- over-the-counter orthotic shoe that may help support the arch or provide more cushion
- put your feet up and rest
- drink plenty of fluids, especially water
- soak your feet in warm water
You may also experience swelling of the feet. If so, check out the article Pregnancy Pains - Swelling in my Pregnancy Pains Series.
Always talk with your health care provider about any concern or pain you are having.
