Fighting Off Insomnia

Female, Girl, Floor, Insomnia

The Brutal Facts

Insomnia is the inability to achieve a good amount of sleep and or a decent quality of sleep. Often the signs of insomnia include difficulty falling and or staying asleep, anxiety, depression, irritability, headaches, waking up and not feeling refreshed, constantly feeling tired during the day, unable to focus on tasks at hand, feeling anxious, fatigue, constantly waking up too early, drowsiness, etc. While insomnia can occur in anyone it is more common to occur in women and older adults. It is always a good idea to see a doctor when insomnia seems to set in and not leave. Thankfully though, there are a few good natural remedies that can be tried in order to fight off insomnia before spending a fortune on doctor bills.

Herbal Teas

There are plenty of herbal teas that can be extremely useful when it comes to helping fight off insomnia. Those teas include hops, valerian, skullcap, st. john’s wort, lemon balm, chamomile, kava, etc.

Don’t Forget Those Vitamins

Just like the age old saying, "an apple a day keeps the doctor away," well, "a few vitamins a day may keep the doctor away" might also help in the case of insomnia. The reason for this is because certain vitamins may help to calm the nervous system, therefore helping to fight off insomnia. A daily vitamin that includes calcium, zinc, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin B3, and magnesium is what one with insomnia may wish to take.

Make a Schedule That Includes Nutmeg

One of the best things that can be done for insomnia is to create a sleeping schedule, making sure to go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every morning. Along with the sleep schedule take 4 ground up nutmegs (powder form) right before bed time. Using a sleep schedule and taking ground up nutmegs with it is a great natural remedy for treating insomnia in itself.
