Are there natural remedies that can help Crohn’s?
Crohn’s is a chronic disease of the gastrointestinal tract or GI tract where inflammation occurs. It is also called inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Sounds horrible, right? You’d be surprised at who is at risk for this disease. Are you at risk? Plus, there are some natural remedies that some people use to eleviate from the pain. There is no cure, but you don’t have to live with the pain.
- Those who are ages 15-25 and 55-65
- Jews - 3-8 times more likely
- Caucasians
- Women have a higher risk than men
- Family history
- Smokers
What are the symptoms of Crohn’s disease?
If you have Crohn’s disease you known the symptoms.
- abdominal pain
- diarrhea (often with blood) - those who suffer can often have diarrhea up to 10 to 20 times per day
- Loss of weight
- mouth sores
- bowel blockage
- tears (fissures) and openings (fistulas)
Call your doctor if you have:
- fast or weak pulse
- feel faint
- severe abdominal pain
- shaking chills
- fever
- constant vomiting
A few tests can be run to find out if you have Crohn’s disease:
- Barium x-ray - you will have to drink a white liquid for the doctor to get a clear picture of your intestines
- stool analysis - to look for blood in stool
- colonoscopy or flexible sigmoidoscopy
- biopsy - to make sure it’s Crohn’s and not something else
Natural remedies for Crohn’s disease
- Several people take colloidal silver to help remedy some of the symptoms dealing with Crohn’s disease.
- You should exercise and eat a healthy diet. Lower your sugar intake, and eat meals high in protein and calories (but not high in saturated fat). Eat snacks throughout the day.
- Massage therapy has been known to help relieve stress
- Crohn’s symptoms become worse when you smoke.
- D and B12 vitamins - other vitamins like A, C, E, Folate, calcium, magnesium, zink and selenium can also help
- Herbs such as ginseng and aloe
- Remove known allergens to Crohn’s such as dairy, wheat and corn
- Do not drink alcohol
- Herbs - such as Robert’s Formula, Flavanoids, Marshmallow Tea
- Accupuncture may be able to help with digestion
- Warm packs can help soothe an achy body and even relieve stress
Althought there is no known cure for Crohn’s disease, hopefully, one of the natural remedies can at least eleviate some of the pain that those who suffer from the disease endure day after day. There are support groups and counselors who can help.
