Preventing Colon Cancer and Polyps Naturally
According to The Colon Cancer Alliance, 1 out of 18 Americans will have colon cancer in their life time. Colon cancer is the #1 most preventable cancer. One of the easiest, most thorough ways to detect colon cancer or polyps is through a colonoscopy. My husband just had one and now has a clean bill of health. Here are some ideas on how to prevent colon cancer and polyps naturally.
Tips for colon health:
- Exercise.
- Drink a lot of water. This will help you maintain regularity.
- Eat a diet low in fat. Pay attention to the kind of milk you drink. Even 2% has lots of fat in it and can be detrimental to you in the long run. Lessen your intake of red meat, especially fatty ground beef, and cheese.
- Eat less less-natural high-carb foods like breads, crackers and chips.
- Eat lots of fiber. Eat oatmeal. Oatmeal is approximately 10% insoluable fiber. That fiber helps clean your colon.
- Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. The majority of your diet should consist of fruits and vegetables. Vegetables contain fiber, too, and the antioxidants necessary to help fight cancer. Blueberries are an excellent antioxidant source.
- Take calcium. Recent studies have revealed that diets high in calcium or supplemented with calcium seem to prevent colon cancer.
Here are some warning signs that something is wrong:
- Stomach pain
- Straining in the bathroom
- Bloating
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Blood in the stool, on the toilet paper or in the toilet bowl.
Though you can sometimes prevent these painful symptoms naturally, if you are bleeding from the rectum, or if there is blood in the toilet after a bowel movement, then it is time to go to the doctor.
