Natural Relief for Heartburn

Heartburn Cause & Effect

An estimated 60 million Americans suffer from heartburn regularly. Instead of taking over-the-counter drugs or prescribed medication that only temporarily stops heartburn and  causes harmful side effects, you can take the natural holistic approach. There are many natural remedies for heartburn which are long-lasting and safer on your body. Most of them can be found in your kitchen cabinet or local health foods store. We often associate heartburn with eating large meals but it can occur anytime the tissues along the throat and intestines are irritated by hydrocholoric acid which our body produces to digest food. This occurrence lowers the valve or esophageal sphicnter (LES) abilities to hold acid in the stomach causing heartburn. Stress, smoking, specific medications, pressure on the intestines from movement, constricting clothing, or excess weight along with certain rich foods can give you heartburn.

Natural Home Remedies For Heartburn

Changing your eating habits by avoiding foods that cause heartburn can be tough for many people who have busy lives. Using these natural home remedies will safely stop your heartburn symptoms.

  • Chewing three papaya enzymes can give instant heartburn relief quicker than many over-the-counter tablets.
  • Drinking a cup of ginger, peppermint, or slippery elm tea while warm not hot will aid the LES.
  • A warm glass of milk can coat the stomach easing discomfort.
  • Taking a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of warm water with honey is a common remedy for heartburn.
  • Baking Soda mixed in a half glass of water has been known to be effective.
  • When heartburn is caused by digesting something very sweet simply mix lemon juice in a cup of water with ½ teaspoon of salt and sip gradually.
  • Drink aloe vera juice at the onset of heartburn.
  • Create a juice from raw potatoes by peeling them and blending in your juicer add some of your favorite juice to the mixture for taste.
  • An inexpensive alternative to heartburn pills is chewing gum. It can give you quick temporary relief.
  • Eating almonds or a raw peeled carrot and chewing each bite 30 times has been successful for some people in relieving heartburn.
  • Digesting cayenne, thyme, comfrey, or pepsin can be remedies also.

These are all really good natural remedies. I rarely get heartburn but I’d recommend it to family members that do experience the burn from time to time. Where did you find all these good remedies?
