FruitEating to Relieve Abdominal Pain and Nausea

Do you suffer from digestive issues on a regular basis?  After you eat, does your stomach hurt?  Do you have an ulcer?  Do you suffer from occasional nausea?  It may seem counter-intuitive, but if you suffer from any kind of abdominal pain or nausea, you can use certain types of food and beverages to naturally relieve it.

Non-Ulcer Dyspepsia

Non-ulcer dyspepsia is a medical condition that makes one feel as if he or she is suffering from an ulcer, but the individual does not actually have one.  When an individual suffers from this condition, he or she will often suffer from upset stomach after eating meals or snacks.

Studies have shown that bananas are helpful for relieving the abdominal pain caused by this condition.  For instance, one research study involved 46 people who suffered from non-ulcer dyspepsia.  Half of the participants took banana powder in pills while the other half took a placebo.

The study lasted for eight weeks, and the researchers discovered that while 50% of participants who took banana powder received complete relief from abdominal pain and 25% received partial relief, only 20% of the participants taking the placebo received any type of relief from abdominal pain.

On the other hand, studies have shown individuals with non-ulcer dyspepsia should avoid drinking a lot of coffee, whether it is caffinated or not.  More specifically, one study discovered that half of participants taking part in the study experienced stomach pain after drinking at least two cups of coffee each morning.

Relieving Pain Caused by Stomach Acid

If you suffer from abdominal pain caused by stomach acid, there are several foods you can eat in order to reduce the pain naturally.  Eating rice, bread, red and white dried beans, tofu, and corn can absorb some of the stomach acid, reducing the pain you feel.  However, do not eat too much of any of these foods as eating too much of something can cause stomach acid to increase in order to digest the food.

When I have an upset stomach related to stomach acid, I eat one slice of bread, which really helps to calm my stomach.  I haven’t tried the rest of these foods yet though for abdominal pain, so I do not know how well they work.

Some beverages are known to increase the production of stomach acid and should be avoided if you are experiencing stomach pain caused by too much acid in your stomach.  Caffinated and decaffeinated coffee, milk, 7Up, beer, caffinated tea, beer, and Coca-Cola increase the production of stomach acid.

Nausea

If you are experiencing nausea, ginger is a great way to relieve it naturally.  Ginger is also effective in relieving seasickness, nausea after surgery, morning sickness, and motion sickness.  The great thing about ginger is that it does not have any side effects associated with it.

Whether you experience occasional stomach upset or regular digestive issues, these foods and beverages can help you relieve your abdominal pain and/or nausea.

After a dental disaster a couple of years ago, I was in so much pain that I regularly took a NSAID twice a day. After just a little over a week, I ended up with digestive problems for the next half a year. I found that papaya juice, kefir yogurt, and Aloe Vera gel (one tablespoon in a glass of water every morning) really helped control the severe stomach pain. Food has been a huge part of my healing and should not be overlooked by anyone in chronic pain. Healing with Food
