Backaches - What has worked for me
At some point of time of the other, we have all suffered the pain of a back ache. The most common form seems to be a dullish, yet definite ache in the small of one’s back, or at least that where I feel the pain most.Having suffered from back aches very often, I have started reading about alternate cures to over-the-counter painkillers. I did this for two reasons really: firstly, I started worrying about the effects the chemicals would have in my system, and secondly, they stopped working altogether. As a result of my investigations, I discovered the technical term used to describe back pain: Lumbago. And my article today is going to focus on treating lumbago effectively.
Backache - Home Treatments
There is a wide spectrum of reasons for why one may suffer from lumbago; it could something as simple as lifting heavy objects, or perhaps strain on the back because of a upset stomach. I suffered because I used to lug around monstrously heavy stuff and have bad posture at my desk.
Saffron
The way I have self-treated back aches is to make a saffron infusion and drink it, and to add the essential oil to my bath once a week. The infusion is made by steeping around 8 strands of saffron in a half a cup of boiling water, for a period of about 5-7 minutes. The water should be drunk without any further additives, which means no sugar to sweeten the concoction.
Comfrey
Another effective remedy I have used is to get an oil massage using an essential oil made from comfrey. Now this a fairly common plant, with either cream of purple flowers. The root is what the oil is made from. However, a word of caution: if you are pregnant, it is extremely unwise to use this plant at all. As a matter of fact, avoid taking any variant of this plant internally altogether.
As for physical causes, those can be remedied easily enough. When lifting heavy objects, do not bend down with legs stretched straight; the key is to bend your knees while lifting, hefting and setting down of weighty objects. For the posture issue, I managed to right that by firstly consciously squaring my shoulders, straightening the spine and keeping my chin parallel to the floor. In addition to this, I walked around in my spare time with a book balanced on my head. Gradually my back straightened and my back aches have stopped.
