Surprising Arthritis Treatments

Enjoyable Remedies for Arthritis

Arthritis is a very common subject to focus on. As a recent sufferer of osteoarthritis, I understand why. While searching for remedies for the rest of my family’s ailments, I oftentimes only found a handful of herbs, a short list of instructions on possible lifestyle changes, and also hydrotherapy and heat therapy treatments that provide pain relief. With arthritis, however, treatment options abound. Since there are already so many arthritis treatments, it doesn’t hurt to add a few more.

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapies are applied to the skin, added to a bath, or inhaled. Aromatherapies are helpful both for pain relief and also relaxation. The herbs used in treating arthritis through aromatherapy include:

  • Angelica
  • Benzoe
  • Black Pepper
  • Camomile
  • Camphor
  • Eucalyptus
  • Ginger
  • Lavender
  • Lemon
  • Origanum
  • Pine Scotch

Aromatherapies can be applied to your paraffin therabath for added effect.

Mind-Body Intervention

There are plenty of treatment options for those suffering from arthritis and other pains. But while you are waiting for your thermabath to warm up, consider trying mind-body intervention. Art and music therapy has been shown to help those suffering from pain to come to terms with their illness. For a mind-body intervention that provides actual pain relief, laughter is known to relieve tension, which can contribute to arthritic pain. Meditation can do a whole variety of things, such as:

  • Slowing heart and breathing rate
  • Lowering blood pressure
  • Lowering cortisol levels
  • Increasing production of melatonin

Also, self-talk can be used to increase your level of relaxation.

Other forms of therapy that promise relief include:

  • Color therapy
  • Feng Shui
  • Journaling
  • Pet therapy
  • Tai Chi
  • Yoga

Many of these treatments are cheap, and many more are enjoyable in themselves. You might even continue to enjoy these activities long after your arthritis has been reduced or eliminated.
