I'm in my 50's now and am really starting to suffer with my joints. I can barely run for a bus these days, let alone work out much!

The doc said it was probably because I spent so many years practising martial arts. They don't tell you when you're younger that keeping fit and doing something like karate will give you nothing but problems later on in life! It's really got me mad, it's so frustrating, especially when you've been super fit in your life.

The problem is, that I know I have to keep mobile, which I do. But I want to do something other than walking and swimming (I hate swimming) I was prescribed anti-inflamatory drugs, but hate to take medication.

What advice has anyone got for me please?

I know that you day you hate swimming, but it really is verry good for you. Anyone with arthritis will benefit from swimming as there is no pressure on the joints when in the water. SO you really should stick at it.

Is your Doctor really certain that is was your prolific sports training as a youngster than caused you problems?

Well, if you don't like swimmng, you don't like swimming. Surely there are other exercises that you can do?

If this is meant to be a pain forum, then there must be other things?

I have lots of ideas on self help, but will have think about them before I post

Until then, stay calm, is the best advice I can offer.

So come on all you other members, what advice can you offer to someone that never expected to get it?

ARTHRITIS CAN STRIKE ANYONE AT ANYTIME - IMO

Well, ther doesn't seem to be many answers to this post? Does that mean that no one here is suffering from arthritis that didn't expect to get it so young?

Or is it that no one want to admit to it? I t think that people in their 40's and 50's find it all a bit to “oldy” for them. What do you lot think then?

BTW, what's all that “do the math to save” thing about?

You expecting a lot of morons on here?

Sorry but some people are number dyslexic, so you are excluding them from this forum by default!

A bit “dictatorial” IMO!

I for one, am not happy about that…… You're being “elitist” before you've even got going IMO!

We do not require registration to post on the site. But automated spam systems willl target and overwhelm systems that do not have some form of protection. The simple math question is meant to stop them. In our opinion, it is better than the image of obscured and jumbled letters and numbers that other systems use.

This post seems to have got a bit “off topic” - Understand about the math instead of jumbles letters.

Anyhow back to the original topic, It's not just people that have been previously active that get arthritis, I've seen many elderly people that have led mainly sedentary lives struck down with this horrible disease. It's indiscriminatory imo, and can strick anyone at anytime.

There are lots of other links on this site to point you in the right direction for natural pain relief Chappers, but it would be nice to get the opinions of other forum members too.

Surely there are other arthritis sufferers out there?
