My fibromyalgia has been acting up a great deal of late. I've found that stretch does help a great deal. Hurts like bloody blue blazes, but my body feels much better when I'm done. At first I was much in pain..but gradually as I do it on daily basis ..I find a great relief in it. I don’t know if any doc would recommend this…but trust me this thing really works. I think there is no harm in trying at least for few weeks…if u have not thought of this ever before.

Anyone else have this experience? Then please share yours as well

it depends. really it's a day to day thing for me. Someitmes stretching can get a muscle to stop spasming, and sometimes stretching will be the thing that does me in for a few days. I have Vascular and neurologic Thoracic outlet syndrome/raynaud's/subclavian steel. so If i get the wrong muscle spasming, I can look forward to blue, useless hands.so for me it can turn out to be pretty dangerous…. or you can say risky…but nevertheless…I do try it ..to get rid of the pain for a while. As you know when the pain is itching there is no other way..

working out in general…

My PA (psoriatic arthritis) improved enormously when I started working out.

The most noticable difference was that I went from having to use the little go-carts in the grocery store to only limping a little at the end of a full grocery trip — if it was the end of a long, otherwise tiring day!

Now I find that if I don't workout at least every 5 or 6 days, I start flaring again — OUCH!

My rheumatologist was very, very happy.

Oh yes, I lift heavy weights (I guess the new name for it is power-lifting). I have to stretch as part of that and my flexibility has improved too, although I'm not where I was 20 years ago.

Stretching for survival

If I don't stretch in the morning, I ache everywhere in my body the rest of the day. This is even more true during flareup. It's harder to stretch then, but worth it!

On the other hand,

Sometimes I hurt all day even when I do stretch in the morning. I had a nasty fall last week, and am in full fibro flare including fibro-fog this weekend. I want to go on record as hating pain. You cant even imagine the level of intensity the pain has increased these days. I wish it could have stopped magically somehow
