Feel Better During Allergy Season
Allergy season can be confusing. When I was suffering from nasal congestion, I never knew if I had bronchitis, pneumonia, or post-nasal drip. All I did know was that I was miserable and couldn’t wait to get the phlegm out of my throat. I just wanted pain relief for my lungs and throat. I felt annoyed that none of the over-the-counter medications worked. All I wanted to do was alleviate the misery that I felt. But I knew nothing about post-nasal drip, or how to help my body eliminate it.
I knew that drinking water was important. I’ve conditioned myself to drink water whenever I start to feel miserable.
But I would have never thought of pouring water up my nose. The Neti Pot was recommended on Oprah . Here is a video on it’s use.
They use a brand name salt but any non-iodized salt fine sea salt or kosher salt works great.
I also didn’t know anything about humidity or heat therapy. Heat therapy can help break up the post-nasal drip that accumulated in my throat, while humidity has the ability to clear nasal passages. Post-nasal drip is not an illness and there was nothing wrong with my body. I was just struggling with an aftereffect that resulted from the draining of my sinuses. Saline solutions can also help clear out the nasal passages.
As for the herbs, there are several herbs that can be added to a humidifier in order to increase the effectiveness of the humidifier. These herbs are:
- Eucalyptus
- Peppermint
- Rosemary
- Tea tree
If you want to directly combat post-nasal drip, you can try using eyebright. This herb helps to dry up the nasal passages. You can also use lavender, which acts as a humidifier itself.
There are ways to relieve post-nasal drip. For me, the humidifier seemed to work the best. But if you can get the other herbs above into your system, you might be able to prevent post-nasal drip before it even starts.
