Herbs for Relieving Arthritis Symptoms

BoswelliaRelieving Sore and Inflamed Joints

According to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, 21% of adults aged 18 or over in the United States have been diagnosed with some type of arthritis.  In addition, the organization predicts by the year 2030, 67 million Americans aged 18 years or older will have received a diagnosis of arthritis from a physician.

Arthritis is constituted by inflammation and joint pain.  Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for arthritis; however, there are several medical and herbal remedies you can use to reduce inflammation and pain.  Read on to discover how you can naturally relieve joint pain and inflammation caused by arthritis.

Arthritis

While there are several types of arthritis, the two most talked about types of arthritis in America are rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.  Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when an individual has an overactive immune system, though it is not known exactly how rheumatoid arthritis develops as a result.  Rheumatoid arthritis cause swollen joints and pain.  Osteoarthritis occurs when the soft material between a person’s joints thins out, which causes one’s bones to rub together, and leads to pain, swelling, and inflammation.

Boswellia

Boswellia comes from the frankincense tree and possesses boswellic acid.  Boswellic acid interrupts chemicals within our bodies that are responsible for inflammation and pain.  Additionally, boswellia prevents the breakdown of tissue between joints, which is caused by arthritis.  The herb also improves blood flow in the joints.

The Doctors Book of Herbal Home Remedies recommends taking two 400-500mg capsules of boswellia four times each day in order to reduce pain.

Turmeric

Turmeric is another herb effective for arthritis pain.  In fact, according to the Doctors Book of Herbal Home Remedies one research study discovered Butazolidin, a popular anti-inflammatory medication, and turmeric were both effective in treating the pain and inflammation of arthritis.  It is suggested that you take one 400-500mg capsule of turmeric three times a day for arthritis symptoms.  It is safe to take this herb for long periods of time.

Juniper

Juniper helps ease arthritis pain, cleanses painful joints, and promotes blood flow in the joints.  Mix a few drops of juniper essential oil with one cup of vegetable oil and apply to painful joints three to four times a day.  You should not use this herb for more than two weeks for painful joints.

Arthritis is a painful condition, but you can relieve the inflammation and pain associated with the condition by utilizing these herbal remedies.
