Cooling Off the Fire of Heartburn

heartburn stomachThe Root of the Flames

Heartburn originates from the stomach, which is where gastric acid, various hormones, and digestive enzymes go to work on the food you just ate. Sometimes too much, as well as too little, of those secreted substances rise to the occasion. Heartburn can be caused by overeating, eating food high in fats, and overeating. Luckily there are things that can be done to help aid heartburn, one of those things obviously being not to overeat.

Three Cheers to Herbs and Spices

Many herbs and spices are known for being able to treat indigestion problems. The question is, though, which ones? Anise, Fennel, Cumin, basil, cinnamon, chamomile, caraway, clove, ginger, garlic, onion, peppermint, and sage are all known for treating indigestion problems. Simply add any of these herbs and spices to the food that you are preparing next time.

A Quick Fix With Spices

For a quick fix with heartburn add a tiny bit of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, or ginger to a cup of warm water, and drink it.

Pineapples For Better Health

Pineapples contain bromelain, which reduces inflammation and is good for digestion. Eating pineapples is a good habit for heartburn sufferers to get into. Also, a bromelain supplement can be taken daily if you aren’t a fan of pineapples. Take a 200mg bromelain supplement with each meal.

Red Alert

Even though you may have found a cure to your heart burn problems the fight still isn’t over. Foods that cause heart burn should be avoided. Foods that cause heartburn include orange juice, tomatoes, raw onions, ground chuck and beef, coffee, tea, ice cream, sour cream, salad dressing, chips, chocolate, etc. Keep in mind that not all foods will affect everyone, so it’s best to watch what you eat and try to keep track of what brings heartburn on for you since all individuals are different.
