Natural Pain Relief for Headaches III

women headace faceFind Pain Relief Now: Headache Avoidance

This is Part III of my series on headaches. If you have tried heat and herbal therapy and still haven’t found relief from constant headache pain, the key for you may be avoidance. If you get headaches daily, you need not only to find pain relief in order to cope in your every day life, but also to find the cause of your headaches or migraines.

The best way to find out what is causing your symptoms is to record everything you eat.

This will take some trial and error.

If your symptoms persist, visit a nutritionist or your primary physician.

How to Avoid Headaches

  1. Keep a food diary. Record the date and everything you’ve eaten that day, and list all symptoms. The same culprit may be causing other symptoms as well.
  2. Be vigilant. Read labels and record all ingredients. If your symptoms are both mysterious and severe, you are going to have to be diligent in recording everything you take into your body.
  3. Be patient. Your symptoms may not occur immediately after consuming the problematic food, so it is important you maintain your food diary for at least 30 days or until you notice a pattern in what causes your headaches.
  4. Eliminate. If you had headaches on the days you ate a few chocolate chip cookies or had a mocha, then that may be the headache-causing pattern you’ve been waiting to find out. Eliminate chocolate or the other trigger food from your diet. Be aware of other names of chocolate or of the food you are eliminating. If you suspect your headaches are caused by chocolate, make sure you steer of all components of chocolate; for example, cocoa, cocoa butter, chocolate liquor, etc.
  5. Leave a comment and let us know how you’re faring.

Common Headache-Causing Foods:

  • Aged Cheeses
  • Caffeinated Drinks
  • Chocolate
  • Citrus
  • Diet Sodas
  • MSG
  • Red Wine
  • Food Preservatives

Other substances than food can trigger headaches, too. We can have reactions to the medication we take and the chemicals in our environment. If you have headaches but suspect they’re not caused by foods, keep a diary to pin down what may be causing your trouble.

Common Headache-Causing Non-Foods:

  • Birth Control Pills
  • Household Cleaners
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Medication
  • Perfume
  • Pesticides

Good luck in finding relief, and let us know your results!
