The Facts
A sore throat is a very painful inflammation of the mucous membranes. In English it’s that the swollen, burning feeling that you get in your throat most commonly due to having a cold. It’s typically hard to swallow and extremely hard to talk, but a sore throat will go away on it’s own within a week at the most usually. A week may not sound all that long but to someone who has a sore throat it may or may not sound like a life time. This is because it’s quite painful with a burning sensation and extremely hard to speak and swallow, not to mention it is rough to get sleep when infected with a sore throat. Luckily, just as nature always seems to intend, there are natural remedies for sore throats that can help to aid some of the pain or to heal a little faster.
Liquids Galore
When you have a sore throat, just like when you have a cold or the flu, it is always best to drink plenty of liquids. A good selection of liquids to drink include juices, soups, herbal. Fresh lemon juice in water is very soothing. Popsicles also seem to help those with a sore throat.
Honey’s Recipe
Create a mixture made up of honey and lemon. Take by teaspoon as needed throughout the day and night. This will help to relieve the pain of a sore throat. A dash of whiskey can also be added to the honey and lemon recipe to help ease the pain as well.
Nutrients For the Body
It’s extremely hard to eat while infected with a sore throat, however it is important to do just that. When the body is sick it needs nutrients in order to fight off viruses, etc. Vitamin C and zinc are needed to fight off such things. Foods high in vitamin C include oranges, pineapples, strawberries, kiwi, and grapefruit. Foods high in zinc include nuts, eggs, and whole grains.
