The Facts
Out of all of the sexually transmitted diseases cold sores are quite possibly the most common one in the world. Cold sores won’t hurt a person if they get them, but they are contagious. A cold sore is a very small blister that can be typically found on the edge of someone’s lips and can often be quite painful and or itchy. Typically a cold sore lasts for 7 - 14 days. Even though a cold sore is another form of the herpes virus it will not interrupt your lifestyle like genital herpes can do. Cold sores are found in people from any age range, gender, and race. Cold sores can be transmitted by kissing, drinking from the same glass as a person with a cold sore, touching a cold sore followed by touching something and or someone else. Another thing to take into consideration when it comes to cold sores is that they are also sometimes hereditary. Although cold sores can’t be cured they can be treated so that they go away quicker when they do appear on our face.
Cold and Flu Season
The times that cold sores appear the most are when people are sick with a cold and or flu. When our bodies are infected with a virus, such as a cold or flu, it tends to make cold sores appear. The best thing for this is to simply take care of our bodies and try not to get sick if we can help it at all.
Look In the Kitchen
The average person’s kitchen contains quite a few products that can be used to help relieve the symptoms of a cold sore as well as help to heal it a little faster. Placing an ice cube on a cold sore at the first sign of one will provide temporary relief as well as possibly allowing the cold sore to heal faster. Applying aloe vera with a cotton swab to the cold sore twice daily will help dry it out. When a cold sore begins apply garlic to it, this should stop it from growing bigger in size. Most importantly eat a healthy diet and drink plenty of fluids.
Medicine Cabinet Finds
There’s always something inside of a medicine cabinet that can come in handy for a cold sore. For example, take an aspirin and crush it followed by adding water to it, creating a paste. Apply the paste to the cold sore from time to time. This should speed up the healing process. Applying toothpaste to a cold sore will dry it out as well as possibly help keep it from growing bigger in size. By dipping a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and applying it to the sore at least four times daily will help prevent the cold sore from spreading as well as help to heal it. Another medicine cabinet find is vitamin E oil. Using a cotton swab, apply a little bit of vitamin E oil to the cold sore 2 - 3 times a day.
