Good Morning, Stiff Neck

Early-Morning Stiff Neck Pain Relief

Ouch! Everyone can relate to waking up on the wrong side of the neck. Stiff necks are not only painful, but they can leave you distracted and miserable for the rest of the day. The pain of a stiff neck might seem difficult to shake, but there are different remedies available that might do the trick.

Stiff necks pain occur when a part of the neck is strained or injured. Most commonly, stiff necks are caused by sleeping on a pillow the wrong way. But sudden movements, stress, or even arthritis can lead to neck stiffness. You can also try carefully moving your neck from side to side, turning your neck as far as it can go without feeling pain. Make sure that you maintain good posture while doing this to decrease the chances that you damage your neck even further.

What seems to work the best for a stiff neck is hydrotherapy and heat therapy. Try throwing a hot water towel over your neck, or spend 15-30 minutes in the shower with hot water drizzling down your neck. If you suffer from neck pain frequently, you might want to consider purchasing a neck heating pack. Hydrotherapy and heating packs are great when combined with a massage. Good luck getting that kink out of your neck.

To provide temporary relief, you can use shoulder shrugs. Shoulder shrugs are performed by squeezing your shoulders towards your ears, and then lowering them. Stiff necks also respond very well to massaging. You could ask someone to give you a massage, or use one of many electric massage tools. When massaging, try using lobelia extract or mullein tea.

To prevent neck stiffness in the future, you might consider strengthening your neck. You can try pushing against your head and tightening your neck, holding that position for 5 seconds. Also, try stretching your neck by rotating your head or bending your neck in different directions. Of course, don’t do these exercises when you’re suffering from a stiff neck. Wait until a day after.
