Sore Soles
While most of us have jobs that involve sitting at a desk for the majority of the day, it doesn’t mean anyone is exempt from sore feet. Whether cracked heels or throbbing arches, painful feet are hard to bear.
Foot massages and baths
When I think of a foot massage, … I think of a romantic setting with candles, soft sofas and my feet planted in my partner’s lap, with him massaging the pressure points on them. Absolutely heavenly; it manages to relax my entire body. The Japanese believe that the entire body can be mapped onto the feet, and massaging a specific area will sort out problems in the corresponding body part. When my feet hurt, I usually fill a container with warm water, put in a few tablespoons of rock salt and let my feet soak in it for about 20 minutes. Then take a rough wash cloth or pumice stone and scrub the soles in circular motion to slough off the dead skin cells.
Moisturizing your soles
Feet can get very dry, with flaky skin and cracked heels; to the extent that it is impossible to walk properly. For the feet, a great moisturizer is glycerin. Rub liberal amounts of glycerin onto the heels, making sure that the feet absorb all of it. As opposed to other kinds of moisturizers, glycerin will not transfer onto other surfaces, although the best time to do this is just before retiring for the day.
Pine needles
Pine needles were used by the Germans in a traditional remedy for hurting feet. The Black Forest provides an ample supply of pine needles. The small inns that surround the area kept warm foot baths with pine needles steeped in them, for their travel-weary guests to soak their feet in. As a replacement for fresh pine needles, use pine extract. Wriggle toes and rotate ankles vigorously to stimulate the muscles of the feet, and to soothe aches. Apart from the benefits to the feet, the fresh scent of pine is very pleasurable.
Bunions
Bunions are protrusions on the feet that are caused by misalignment of the foot bones or poor circulation due to constricted footwear. The French court introduced tight pointed shoes as high fashion a few centuries ago, and the aristocrats suffered with painful feet. They devised a cure with cold water; they walked in flowing streams of cold water to improve the circulation in their feet and do away with bunions. The remedy is used to date in France.
