Sick of Abdominal Pain?

Feeling Better, One Herb at a Time

Stomach pain can ruin your day. You might suffer from chronic stomach pain that is so intense that you might struggle to get through day-to-day activities. Sometimes, abdominal pain can be the worst kind of pain that you can experience. If you feel wary about the pain relievers and laxatives that your doctor might prescribe you, there plenty of herbs like the ever-helpful peppermint that can be used to relieve lower abdominal pain.

Finding any herbs that can cure lower abdominal pain besides peppermint can be difficult, since lower abdominal pain is caused by a variety of problems. But there are other herbs that can provide pain relief:

  • German chamomile
  • Meadowsweet
  • Slippery Elm
  • Kankerbossie
  • Ginger
  • Fennel
  • Mentha piperita
  • Maagpyn bossie

One of the best herbs of all for abdominal pain is peppermint. Peppermint can prevent spasms in the digestive system and also encourages gastric secretions.

Exercises are also good for lower abdominal pain as long as they are not too vigorous. One good form of exercise is yoga, since yoga works the body slowly and is not too hard on the abdomen. Yoga can be combined with meditation, breathing and relaxation exercises, and aromatherapy.

Also, you can prevent lower abdominal pain by remaining in motion. Sitting or standing for a long period of time can contribute to the strain on your abdomen and increase lower abdominal pain. The way you sleep might also contribute to lower abdominal pain. You can take pressure off your abdomen by sleeping with a pillow between your knees if you are laying on your side or under your knees if you are laying on your back. Also, if you have difficulty sleeping because of your lower abdominal pain, you can try wearing a lumbar pack before bed.

Peppermint or fenugreek can be used to sooth your stomach. Use them as tea and drink them hot before you sleep.
